Western Slope Voices: The Legacies of Edward T. Taylor and Wayne Aspinall

Saturday, February 14, 11:00 am; Free
Glenwood Springs Branch Library

Two noted Colorado politicians will be the focus of “Western Slope Voices: The Legacies of Edward T. Taylor and Wayne Aspinall,” a presentation by historian Steve Schulte.

Schulte’s talk goes over Taylor’s and Aspinall’s activity in civic and political affairs for more than 100 combined years when the two represented Colorado’s Western Slope in Congress. Taylor served as U. S. Representative from 1915 to 1941, with Aspinall serving as a U. S. Representative from 1949 to 1972. The presentation will examine each leader’s career and how the two identified the issues most important for the development of western Colorado.

Steve Schulte is professor emeritus of history at Colorado Mesa University where he taught from 1989 to 2020. He is the author of “Wayne Aspinall and the Shaping of the American West” (2002) and “As Precious as Blood: The Western Slope in Colorado’s Water Wars” (2016), both published by University Press of Colorado.
